Addressing Signatures

Post by Mewdles » March 30th, 2010, 11:02 am

The current size restrictions for signatures is: 500px by 200px (width x height)

I've noticed that 500x200 is actually very big for forum signatures and with animated signatures on the rise, seeing several posts by the same user within a thread can actually ruin the forum experience. The signature size restriction will probably be reduced to 350x125.

I've noticed alot of sites restrict it to about 400x200, and 350 pixels wide should be good, but 125 pixels would be a bit too narrow in my opinion.

350x175 or 400x200 should be reasonable, lemme upload some examples of these sizes

EDIT 2: Removed others to eliminate confusion, thats the new restriction.

I'd say, 350x200, as long as they ain't mega animations.

EDIT: WFT?! WHERE'D HALF MY AWESOME SIG GO?! HM?!

It wasn't even that big! DAMN YOU!!! (200 char limit...)

200px in height is just too big for forums. It really can get excessive with a bunch of people with huge signatures and I don't want to have to give special priviledges to people who don't have animated signatures.

125px in height is NOT narrow. Some sights won't even let you have that only allowing signatures that are maybe ... 325x20

just was givin my opinon, I uploaded examples of the sizes for people who arent tech savy =P

that said, the top one would be the new imposed restrictions

and any site that has a 350x20 restriction I'd leave right away, cuz thats only one of those little banner things. This is even a tad bit too narrow for a forum, while some sites (although strictly enforcing signature size) allow the maximum of the equivelent of a 400x200 pixel signature. In otherwords, about what? 8 lines of text?

Well since I can't enforce restrictions on this forum, other than a character limit, I have to manually keep any eye out for large signatures. So I think I'll be settling with 325x125

I'd call for 500x150 pixels as maximum sig image size (since width isn't much of a problem for forum view like height), as well as forbid animation in signature images.

I might either enforce a certain size for animated signatures or not allow them at all.

500x125 is actually very long for some screens and can be a little bit of an eye sore. Especially, if it's 125px in height. Look at the example below:
