To Clear Some Things Up

Post by ToonPimp » November 25th, 2009, 3:26 pm

First off, I would like to thank the people that donated to my cause, because of you, I will continue to make
ROR games. My next game was going to be Cracklevania Legend but instead it will be Nykka's Game.
No, It won't be the same game that was posted in it's own thread, instead it will be a completely different
game made in flash rather than game maker.
Will this be my last free ROR game? Probably not. There are people out there that truly care
if I make games or not. It is those people that I make games for and as long as they are around I will
try to make almost all of my games free. I may have overreacted in previous posts, but it happens,
I'm human, I make mistakes, just like everyone else that visits this site.
Even if I do somehow switch over to some kind of pay format, this forum will remain here and remain free.
If it were up to me, I would make all of my games completely free, but life dictates that I need money to live.
I'm also putting up a blog dedicated to the development of Nykka's game. If all goes well the game should be
pretty large. If you have any questions, let me know.
Current projects:
Krystal's Island, Cracklevania 2

First of all, thanks for all the hard work done so far. It's really appreciated, even by the silent mass of leechers who never post.

That said, you are not alone in your plight. Even somewhat large online manga translations don't receive more than 15 or so comments, even if there are thousands of readers. People on the internet are very much "download and forget". So your source of enjoyment has to come from very few comments of people who actually, truly care.
It always helps to have some coworkers on the project, you keep each other motivated and truly appreciate each other. I wish I hadn't had such a deep personal crisis during my last project... I was partially responsible for it failing  :-\
That said, I still feel a little pride. We did a really good job, we even edited the sound effect and whenj Toykopop released it commercially, I was like "wtf" because they butchered the whole translation. Honestly, in parts it was completely different from the source text, even introducing wrong facts. And I SO wanted to buy it  :'(

So yeah, if you feel that you need to somewhat move on, do so. It's of course a little sad, since there's noone to fill your shoes but then again, you only have one life. Do what you feel is worth pursuing... and if you feel the urge, occasionally drop us ingrates a new small game  ;)

Best regards

Fox

See guys,all is well.

You didnt over react Toonpimp, you coulda been a bit more tactful but you were in the right, anyone woulda flipped in that situation.

There were a few people here that did jump the gun and I'll be gripping the ban hammer a lil tighter in coming weeks as a result. But still, people all over here needed to chill, and I personally thank you for this post clearing the air.

Wow... This post of mine could end badly but dude, TP... I was totally rooting for you making the pay site. I'm sick of watching guests come in here, play the games and leave without so much as a comment. Your choice as always but damn... A paysite would've been a Nice christmas present.

No Im not being sarcasstic... Paysites have a certain air of accomplishment to them. Clubstripes is a great example. I love my subscription there but its been ruined by site rippers... Ah well. As always, two thumbs up TP.

Hi TP thanks for your last post.  I don't say much normally because I don't feel I usually have anything relevant to say and don't want to say absurd things so you may be thinking "wtf who is this guy...".  Since a few guys on here seem to really know their stuff, things I could think of have usually already been thought of.  I'm currently studying mainly C+ and a bit of Java as well as 3d animation so may have useful input a bit down the track and be able to contribute artwork and other stuff but will experiment a bit on my own for a while yet as I learn more at the tertiary institutions I'm studying at.

In regards to your last post, by all means charge for your games.  If you have some people you really like who can't afford it (or are friends/colleagues) give them a free login or whatever.

I don't like to donate because I don't feel comfortable paying money when I don't know what/if the game will ever eventuate.  I am more than happy to pay for a completed game or to charge smaller amounts for a playable version and then charge a bit extra for every add-on you make (this is what a lot of the MMORPG games do, after all).

I totally understand the time it takes to complete each project and yes you definitely need to get paid for the long hours you put in.  This is not to mention that you are one of the VERY few people I have found who makes QUALITY games in a unique genre - ROR.

So charge away and keep em coming :)

Ok, i'm one of those play and leave guys.

I'm not used to sites, that have one main person who creates the games and post them.  Most sites i go to allow anyone who makes games to post them on the site, so leaving comments really don't matter.

My bad.

LOL sorry Papanomics if I offended you.  This is another reason why I don't post often.....I normally find a way to say something to offend people when I don't mean to.  I just wanted TP to know that I think he is extremely talented and that there are people out there quite prepared to pay for his work if we can download and play it because we think it is that good.

I'm hoping he or others aren't offended by that?  I'll definitely stop posting if I managed to offend someone in this message...:P

Thanks for that Shadowman.  Hi to everyone else as well!  :)

You will see more of me in the future - I'm currently making a game of my own at present but it's slow going as I'm studying and working atm.  I intend to let people download it from here and give me feedback if I'm allowed.  It seems everytime I start doing something in the making of the game, I learn a new way to do it better or want to redo artwork I'm no longer content with or some such.  I'm probably too picky :P  Still, when I'm happy with it I'll see what everyone thinks.  But back to the topic of the post....

So great to see that TP is still making games - I have been motivated and learned a lot since I found this site.  It's good inspiration and I'm constantly going "Now, how did he do that?" when I'm playing games from TP and some of the others.  A good lesson is that you don't need 2 years and a massive development team to make a fun and enjoyable game to play, porn or otherwise.

Grateful to have this site and forums especially *cheers*

LoL I love how strange this thread is...

in regards to ....well everything.... First off the "anyone dumps games forums" type comment, you can do that here as well, I work my arse off promoting this site to try to get people who would like to try and make their own games to come and learn and use our resources.

Also this brings me to my second point... initially TP didnt say anything about the forums ,he was talking about how he will likely do the buisness end of his games. Zone runs a paysite and a free forum so clearly the formula works...Yet everyone decided to get angry over all the wrong reasons and post their "honest opinions" on matters that didnt really concern the issue on hand...at least not totally, liberties were taken.

Now see,we're all cool and relaxed now that these things are made clear, dont we all feel better?

Woot! This is good news, everythings going back to normal ^_^

I was worried it was too late to fix, but i am very happy to see it work out.

You rock TP, we are all greatful to you. Not only for the unique games you make, but also for the oppertunity to interact in this forum both with you and the community which was created by your artistic and computer skills.

So again, thank you.

Thanks for clearing stuff up TP, you didn't overreact, but you could have phrased your opinions differently ;)
